Karen Berg was an author and founder of the Kabbalah Centre, known for her books on Kabbalistic teachings.
Karen Berg, born October 12, 1942, was an author and the founder of the Kabbalah Centre International. Growing up in a Jewish household, she encountered Orthodox Judaism while working in New York, where she met Philip Berg. They married in 1971 and later moved to Jerusalem, where Philip began teaching Kabbalah with Karen's support. Together, they established The Research Centre of Kabbalah in Tel Aviv. After residing in Israel for 12 years, the couple relocated to Queens, New York, transforming their home into the Kabbalah Centre's first U.S. location, eventually moving again to Beverly Hills.
Berg authored five books exploring Kabbalistic concepts, including "God Wears Lipstick: Kabbalah for Women" (2005), "Simple Light, Wisdom from a Woman's Heart" (2008), "To Be Continued, Reincarnation and the Purpose of our Lives" (2012), and "Finding the Light through the Darkness, Inspirational lessons rooted in the Bible and the Zohar" (2016). She also founded The Kabbalah Centre Charitable Foundation, Spirituality for Kids, and Kids Creating Peace, an initiative supporting children in conflict zones. Following Philip Berg's passing in 2013, Karen and their son Michael took over the center's operations, with Karen assuming the role of spiritual leader. She passed away on July 30, 2020.
Founding the Kabbalah Centre
Karen Berg co-founded the Kabbalah Centre with her husband, Philip Berg. After meeting Philip in New York and marrying him in 1971, they moved to Jerusalem. There, Philip began teaching Kabbalah, with Karen actively supporting his efforts. They established The Research Centre of Kabbalah in Tel Aviv. Following a twelve-year period in Israel, the couple relocated to Queens, New York, where their residence became the initial U.S. base for the Kabbalah Centre. The organization later moved its headquarters to Beverly Hills, California.
Literary Contributions to Kabbalah
Berg authored several books aimed at making Kabbalistic teachings accessible. Her works explore themes such as applying ancient wisdom to modern life, spiritual growth, and the purpose of existence. "God Wears Lipstick: Kabbalah for Women," published in 2005, offered Kabbalistic insights tailored for women. Other notable titles include "Simple Light, Wisdom from a Woman's Heart," "To Be Continued, Reincarnation and the Purpose of Our Lives," and "Finding the Light Through the Darkness," which draws inspirational lessons from the Bible and the Zohar. These books reflect her commitment to disseminating Kabbalistic philosophy.
Philanthropic and Spiritual Leadership
Beyond her literary work, Karen Berg was involved in significant philanthropic endeavors. She founded The Kabbalah Centre Charitable Foundation and Spirituality for Kids, an online program designed to assist at-risk youth. In 2005, she established Kids Creating Peace, an organization dedicated to fostering understanding among children in war-affected regions of the Middle East. After the death of Philip Berg in 2013, Karen and their son Michael assumed leadership of the Kabbalah Centre, with Karen serving as its spiritual leader until her passing in 2020.
