Anne Fadiman

Anne Fadiman, born August 7, 1953, is an American writer recognized for her essays and reporting. Her work often delves into literary journalism, memoir, and autobiography. Fadiman's extensive accolades include the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and the Salon Book Award. She is the daughter of Clifton Fadiman, a prominent figure in literature and media, and Annalee Jacoby Fadiman, a World War II correspondent and author. Fadiman pursued her education at Harvard University, graduating from Radcliffe College in 1975.

Her notable literary achievements include the 1997 book, "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down," which meticulously examined the cultural and medical disparities between a Hmong family from Laos and the American healthcare system concerning their child's epilepsy. This work garnered significant critical acclaim. Fadiman has also authored essay collections such as "Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader" (1998) and "At Large and At Small: Familiar Essays" (2007). Additionally, she has contributed to the literary world as an editor for "Civilization" magazine and "The American Scholar," where she received recognition for her editorial leadership. More recently, she published "The Wine Lover's Daughter" (2017), a memoir reflecting on her relationship with her father.
