Lotus has Italian, English, Irish, and Slovak heritage. She decided to pursue acting at age 11, stating a lifelong love for storytelling and acknowledging the opportunities she had. She attended the Brearley School and the Professional Children's School before studying at Marymount Manhattan College and dedicating years to mastering the Meisner acting technique.
