This experience profoundly influenced her writing. Martin transitioned into publishing, working in editorial roles before becoming a full-time author.

She gained widespread acclaim for "The Baby-Sitters Club" series, which she began writing in 1985. After authoring the first 35 books, ghostwriters continued the series. Martin has also penned numerous other popular series and standalone novels, many of which explore contemporary issues and draw inspiration from personal experiences and childhood memories. Her work has received critical recognition, including a Newbery Honor for "A Corner of the Universe." Beyond her writing, Martin is dedicated to literacy and children's welfare, co-founding "The Lisa Libraries" and establishing the Ann M. Martin Foundation.

She later moved into the publishing industry, progressing from editorial assistant to senior editor before dedicating herself to writing full-time. Her breakthrough came with "The Baby-Sitters Club" series, which became immensely popular.
