Padarthas

The Sanskrit term "Padarthas" (पदार्थ) literally translates to "meaning of a word" or "that of which a word is the expression." It originates from "pada" (foot, step, word) and "artha" (meaning, purpose, object). First systematically explored in the Vaisheshika Sutras attributed to Kanada, it signifies the fundamental entities or categories that can be objects of knowledge.
