Dodona

The name "Dodona" is of uncertain Greek origin, possibly pre-Hellenic. Some scholars suggest a connection to the Indo-European root *dud- meaning "to speak" or "to prophesy," linking it to the site's oracular function.

An ancient city in Thessaly, famous for its Temple of Jupiter and its oracles. According to ancient legends, the to\^'Ti was founded by a dove. Donar (Scanrl.), or Thunar, Thar. In the North the God of Thunder, lie was the Jupiter Tonans of Scandinavia. Like as the oak was devoted to Jupiter so was it sacred to Thor, and his altars were overshadowed with oak trees. Thor, or Donar, was the offspring of Odin, "the omnipotent God of Heaven'', and of ^Mother Eartli.
